The curtain came down on the Under 14 B Football teams season in Rivervalley on Sunday afternoon! :(

Coming into the game, hopes were high that the girls could add some well deserved silverware. However, they ran into a determined Naomh Mearnog team.

Played on the AWP, the game started at a furious pace with both teams exchanging scores. Mearnog got on top in the middle and managed to add a couple of majors to build a daunting lead heading into half-time.

After some inspirational words from the girls themselves, they came out with renewed emphasis and quickly pegged Mearnog back with 2 goals. However, Mearnog came again and their dangerous forwards found time and space to convert a few more scores.

With time running out, Finians came again and reduced the deficit, Mearnogs seemed to wilt under the pressure of the girls energy and more chances were created. Unfortunately, the girls just ran out of time and Mearnog ran out the winners.

Best of luck to Naomh Mearnog in the final and we wish a speedy recovery to the two girls injured on their team.

The Finians girls can be proud of their season though, there were 21 togged out for the game yesterday, which is an absolutely fantastic achievement in itself. There is a huge amount of grit, determination and no shortage of skill on the team, so we look forward to 2024 where there will be a Feile, in addition to League and Championship to challenge for! :)
