Sunday morning saw the first round of the hurling Feile for the U15 Boys, against Thomas Davis in Rivervalley. The early start and a very heavy pitch meant the boys knew they were in for a tough encounter. ๐ช๐ช
And so it proved, right from the off it was a very physical contest, and combined the wet conditions underfoot every ball was hard earned.
The visitors settled quickest, and an early goal gave them a great start, slowly but surely though, the St Finians lads settled in to the job at hand, fighting for every ball and mixing well in the physical exchanges. As the half progressed the home side kept the scoreboard ticking over, and a goal of their own meant the match stayed tight.
Credit to both sides, they made light of the conditions and the hurling was hugely entertaining, with some really fine points scored and great skill and determination on display.
The second half saw the home side raise their game, and all over the pitch they started to win the key battles. Another two goals over the course of the half were vital. Admirably, Thomas Davis kept pushing, but the St Finians boys kicked on, and finished stronger for a well earned win. ๐๐
Thanks to Thomas Davis for a very sporting contest, one of their lads had to leave the field with a suspected broken finger, wishing him a speedy recovery. St. Finianโs are now looking forward to the next round and all the mentors are extremely proud of them.
