Our adult Camogie team welcomed Erin's Isle B to Rivervalley on Tuesday night. Erin's Isle had won the Junior 3 championship in 2023 and were coming with a full head of steam to take down our warriors on their home soil. This turned into a tense and nervy affair with no quarter given and no holding back from either team. Referee Ernie Brenner had his work cut out for him in the centre but managed to keep a lid on things (generally!).
Both teams started strong with attacks that went wide due to some fierce defending. The grass on Rivervalley meant handling had to be excellent and both teams adjusted well. Finians got the better of the first half, scoring 1-5 and holding Erin's Isle to just 2 points.
Erin's Isle started strong in the 2nd half, clipping in a goal and a point to one point for Finians in the first 10 minutes leaving just 3 points in it. With the match in the balance, things got tenser again with the ref reaching for his cards on several occasions. Finians lost a player to a 2nd yellow card and needed to readjust for the last 15 minutes. However, adjust they did, with some fierce defending and superb attack play. Despite being a player down, Finians outscored Erin's Isle 4 points to 1 point in the last 15 minutes to win 1- 10 to 1 - 4. Sore bodies and big smiles after an epic encounter.
Finians now sit top of the league with 2 wins and a draw. Next game is away to Round Towers on Tuesday 30th April and all support is welcome.
