Busy time for the 2nd adult hurling team with contrasting fortunes in the league and championship. The league campaign was concluded with a 1-17 to 2-11 win over Raheny in Rivervalley. Trailing by 8pts early in the 2nd half the outlook didn't look too positive. However , St Finians didn't panic & got themselves back into the encounter through hard graft and the scores began to flow. St Finians founded themselves 3 points in front with the match heading into the last 5 minutes. At this stage team manager Johnny Walsh who started corner forward tracked his man down the field when the corner back went on the attack. Following this John decided not to head back up the field again which proved a good decision as he acted as a sweeper clearing the ball to good effect in the closing stages as St Finians held on for a 3 point win on a 1-17 to 2-11 scoreline. Niall O'Connor was the St Finians goal scorer with fellow underage coaches Mick Kennedy & Niall Partridge making their debuts @ adult level for St Finians
This win saw the team head to Binn Eadair in Howth for the championship opener on Friday night with a lot of confidence and on the night a cracking championship match took place at the scenic Howth venue. The match was notable in that young players George Kennedy, Josh Ralph Callum Markey, Matthew Deegan, Ronan Markey all made their adult hurling championship debut and the match also marked the return of Eoin O'Connor from a long term injury.
The 1st half was evenly contested with St Finians leading 0-9 to 0-7 at half time. A superb Eoin O'Connor goal early in the 2nd half put St Finians into a 4 point lead at that stage. However, Binn Eadair were never out of contention and came back strongly and in particular showed radar like accuracy from placed balls. In the end Binn Eadair ran out deserving 3 point winners on a 0-17 to 1-11 scoreline.
📅Next match this Friday 19th July v Naomh Barrog in Rivervalley @730pm
