Weather warnings saw matches cancelled all over the country today but St Finians and St Sylvesters were having none of that in Broomfield today with both teams raring to go to get back hurling.

The all weather pitch in Broomfield provided ideal underfoot conditions. The Waterford contingent were prominent for St Finians. Dara Power made an early return from his weekend back home to don the number 14 jersey and act as the fulcrum of the attackling play. His early point helped settle  St Finians. The other two  Waterford folk were moving well also with Dave Kelleher anchoring the defence at centre back and leading well as team captain and Alan Lawton struck an early goal. Wing forwards Vinny Foley and Dylan Gray were showing well for puck outs and contributing on the score board, Vinny with good points and Dylan with a goal. These scores saw St Finians lead 2-9 to 1-4 at half time.

The weather conditions deteriorated further in the 2nd Half. This did not overly impact  St Finians who  maintained good work rate with Matthew Deegan and Conor Collier ensuring St Finians always had a foothold in midfield. Behind them  Clare man Daragh Quinn was prominent at wing  back on his club debut. The final score of the match for St Finians was struck by Conor Collier pushing forward from midfield for a good point to secure a winning  start to the league on a 2-17 to 1-8 scoreline.

The most encouraging aspect of the day for the club was the result was brought about with the input of 4 minor players making their adult hurling debut - Brian McGlade, Donal  Boyd, Donie Redmond and Fionn Ryan.

It was great to see good support for the team present with supporters travelling despite the poor weather conditions
