🌟🏑Adult Hurling match report by Gene Griffin🏑🌟
The 1st Team hosted St Patricks from Wicklow town in the league this morning at Ridgewood. Having lost to the same opposition in 2024, St Finians were determined to get the victory and also claim the league points in what was the opening league match of the season. The team knew a strong challenge was in front of them as St Patricks play senior grade hurling in Wicklow.
St Finians settled well and needed to in order to make the most of the advantage of the strong breeze. James Shelly, Mikey Gormally , Mattie Murray and Senan Crosbie were picking off points early on but a goal mid- way through the half brought St Patricks right back into contention. St Finians needed to stretch out the lead before half time as they would be facing into a strong wind in the 2nd half. Up stepped Dublin under 20 hurler Senan Crosbie striking a 21 yard free to the net sending St Finians in at half time ahead by 10 points on a 1-12 to 1-2 scoreline.
In the 2nd half, St Finians started well but with a strong wind St Patricks started to bombard the St Finians full back line. Domo Harris( with new black tights and white sports grip socks) was busy in goals averting danger and at the other end Senan Crosbie kept the scoreboard ticking over with top quality points. In the closing stages, St Patricks eventually breached the St Finians rearguard for 2 goals and St Finians had to defend strong to hold on to a 2 point lead in the closing stages. The final scoreline was 1-21 to 3-12. A narrow victory for St Finians in what was an entertaining and well contested encounter.
