It's nearly a year since Finians won the inaugural Green Sports Club of year award from Fingal County Council and the club keeps adding awards and cups to our Trophy cabinet 🏆🏆🏆!
A few weeks go we received some additional unexpected funding from Fingal which allowed us to install some extra solar panels ⚡ and a battery so we can store the extra energy we generate at the club, saving on our electricity bills and reducing demand on the electricity grid. Earlier in the year, we had Green themed Paddy Day parade, we've launched Return Bins ♻ for recycling bottles and cans and also had a recent Halloween pre-loved costumes swap shop and give away 🎃
Finians GAA, River Valley Community Centre, Swords Tidy towns and other partners were lucky to receive €75,000 in funding from Round 1 of the Community Climate Action Fund last year. The grant is open to not-for-profit community organisations for implementing climate actions in Fingal such as sports clubs, charities and community halls. This is a great opportunity for communities to apply for building insulation, replacement doors and windows, solar panels, recycling bins, heating systems, biodiversity projects, swap shop materials and other sustainability projects.
Round 2 is now open for applications from 20th October to 22nd December 2025. There are five themes in the grant

💡Community Energy,
🚲Travel,
♻Shopping and Recycling,
🍏Food and Waste and
🐝Environmental/ Climate projects
We have some ideas that weren't funded from Round 1 of the grant but we'd love to hear what you'd like to do at the club to build on our Green Club award. Maybe you'd like an information event on how to save energy ? Perhaps new biodiversity friendly planters at the front of the club house ? Have a think and let us know by November 28th. Please e-mail your ideas to greenteam@stfinians.com

Funding applications don't happen by themselves nor do the events organised at the club so we'd welcome any members who'd like to support the Green Team or maybe help organise an event. Go raibh maith agaibh 🌍♻💡🚲🐝
