Our Adult Ladies football team went into Rd.4 of the championship unbeaten in 6 and knowing a win v Cuala B would give them a home semi-final draw in 2 weeks time.
Cuala started off the brighter of both teams and their movement around their Half forward and Half back line caused us trouble. Cuala took advantage and hit some good early scores. Eventually, Finians managed to slowly regroup and impose themselves on the game with some good scores from Emma Howe and Teagan Comber keeping us just in touch at halftime 0-5 v 1-7.
From the throw in it was apparent that the girls now were beginning to shift through the gears and 2 immediate pts from Emma Howe and Breda Orohoe narrowed the lead.
Cuala who needed the win and other results to go their way had no intention of capitulating and tagged over scores immediately to keep their lead intact. Cue Emma Howe who up until now had been keeping the scoreboard ticking over with the first of 3 goals she scored! Rachel Church kept the pressure up with another point to make the game a draw. Again Cuala came back with a pt which was canceled out by another Emma Howe pt. Draw game going into the final water break and from their Emma Howe struck with a great goal followed by a point from Shannon Britnell to make the gap 4pts. Cuala now needed to dig deep to save their Championship scoring a pt followed up by a fantastic goal from a tight angle. Resilience, work rate and a never say die attitude has been the hallmark of this team the last 2 matches and with Emma Howe in superb form she finished off Cuala with her 3rd goal of the night followed on by another point from a free to leave her with a personal tally of 3-7 for the night and a performance for the ages.
Teagan Comber 1pt, Breda Orohoe 1pt, Rachel Church 1pt & Ciara Buchanan 1pt also scoring on the night.
Excellent 2nd half performances to from Laurie Baxter , Aine Mc Clean , Rachel Church who finished the game Paul Mannion-esque with a shot on target followed by a defensive clearance in the 6yd box in the same play!
Breda Orohoe who now gets ready for the biggest match of her life on Saturday week when she gets married to her fiance Matthew Quinlan ❤ Everyone in St.Finians would like to wish Breda & Matthew a great wedding day and many years of happiness.
