The club offer their deepest condolences to the McDonagh family on the passing of Tony McDonagh. Tony was a founder member of St Finians GAA club and served the club as a player on the first football team, coached our juvenile teams, served as a committee member, treasurer and chairperson. Tony was also instrumental in the development of St Finians River Valley community centre and served as a director on the board which developed and built the community centre. Tony's most recent club involvement was with the adult football teams and was on the management team that won the county championship in 2020, our clubs first adult football championship in nearly 20 years.
Tony and his wife Maree have been fantastic club supporters and great club servants since the foundation of the club. Their children David and Paul both played with the club from juvenile level to adult. Tony's granddaughter currently plays on our under 11 team. Tony was hugely respected both in the club and the community as a whole since moving to River Valley in the late 1970's but never lost his deep affection and love for his home county of Meath. Tony epitomised all that a club member should be , he gave his time selflessly to the club , always looking to contribute and develop the club. His club loyalty, resilience and tireless workrate is an example to us all what a club person should be, always looking to give rather than take from the club.
Tony is a massive loss to our club and community and his passing is deeply felt by all club members at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this very difficult time.
