Another busy week for the under 13 girls.

Wednesday 27th April

After being moved up to division 1, the girls made the short trip down to St Vincent's for a camogie match. Vincent's had won both their division 1 games to this point so a tough encounter was expected. It certainly turned out that way as Vincent's built a lead and early into the second half established an 8 point gap. However Finians rallied and laid siege to the Vincent's goal. Their hard-work was rewarded with late scores to secure a great victory.

Sunday 1st May

The division 1 camogie team were on their travels again. This time the opponent's were Clontarf who had been even more impressive in their wins to date. An epic match was played in St Anne's and despite the wet conditions, there was some fine hurling from both teams. This time Finians built a lead that they held to halftime. Clontarf opened the second half strong and moved a few points clear. Finians came back again and unluckily missed a few chances, allowing Clontarf to win by a point. The second teams camogie match was postponed with Faughs unable to field a team. 👏👏

Monday 2nd May

Switching to the big ball, the second team were invited to the inaugural Granville Cup being hosted by Na Fianna. The cup is in memory of their mentor John Granville who sadly passed away last year. The format was round robin group games and Finians opened up winning their first three games against Vincent's, Na Fianna and Ballinteer St John's. Their final group game was against Donaghmore Ashbourne. With both teams having secured qualification to the final, it was a case of figuring out the opposition. Ashbourne were a very strong outfit with a number of super players and they ran out comfortable winners. There was a small break before the final against the same opposition and the girls worked on their tactics. The final was a much closer affair with Finians closing to within a point of their opponents early in the second half. However Donaghmore weren't to be outdone and scored some great scores to secure victory and the Shield Cup. The girls were absolutely delighted to secure runners up in their group and were presented with beautiful medals.👏👏🏅🏅
