U13 Boys - St. Finians vs Beann Eadair
Came in from a rainy Thursday on the avenue…
Our u13 boys strode majestically into the fiery cauldron that is Rivervalley for their 2nd football league match of the season as we welcomed Beann Eadair to our hallowed turf. With a strong wind having a significant impact on the match, our boys were hungry like the wolf as they duran duran their hearts out in the 1st half to take a 4 point lead into the half time break.
Now facing a strong wind into the 2nd half, all our mentors could ask was please please tell me now, is there something I should know, is there something I should say, that'll make you come my way. Perplexed as to how we stop the wild boys (wild boys) of Beann Eadair, the boys were sent into battle with their mentors words ringing in their ears that they tried to tame you, looks like they’ll try again!
Our u13 boys immediately bottled it & allowed a goal in within 20 seconds of the 2nd half throw in but don’t say a prayer for them now, save it ‘til the morning after. A point between the teams, blowing a gale into their faces, it was gut check time & the boys stared down Beann Eadair with a view to a kill. The boys have the skill, they have the mettle so whyyyyyy don’t you use it was the call from the side-line. A no-no-notorious & excitable side-line could have led to murder… by the roadside but the boys danced into the fire, kept the scoreboard ticking over knowing that fatal kiss is all we needed. All eyes were on the clock as the referee allowed a few extra minutes in an enthralling match. Screams of “You've gone too far this time" could be heard from the crowd but that was the natural reflex (flex, flex, flex) as everyone in attendance willed the boys on.
Finally the whistle blown, a 3 point win & the boys had done it 👏👏. A hard fought victory against a spirited Beann Eadair. Summer holidays loom large but a number of matches are yet to be played before players & parents alike can dance across the Rio Grande.
Our thanks to Beann Eadair for making the trip over.
