U13 division 5 hurling league match - St. Finians vs St. Anne’s

Ground Control to Major Tom, Ground Control to Major Tom, Take your protein pills and put your helmet on!

Our u13s boys strapped on their jet packs & came in for landing for their 2nd hurling league match of the season as we welcomed St. Anne’s Bohernabreena to God Country (Ridgewood Juvenile Pitch). Both teams started off their league campaigns with wins so it was anyone’s guess how the titanic battle would pan out. Who knows, not me!

The whistle was blown, the slíotar was thrown in & we had huuuuuurlers….. fighting in the midfield, oh man! Look at those hurlers go, it’s the freakiest show! Both teams put on their red shoes and danced the blues in a strongly contested first half. Our boys took a 1-5 to 1-0 lead into the half time break & the coaches gathered together to make some ch-ch-ch-ch-changes for the 2nd half. The boys took to the pitch in the 2nd half knowing they could be heroes just for one day.

Let’s dance was the message ringing in the boys ears as Finians continued their strong performance through-out the 2nd half as the frenzied crowd prayed don’t let the children lose it, don’t let the children lose it, let all the children boogie! From a panel of 20 players, they all performed like Star-Mennn and played their best for us pa-rum pum pum pum. Our opponents to their credit kept battling but it didn’t matter what you wear, Just as long as you are there as our boys ensured they’d be dancing, dancing in the streets of Swords for the weekend.

Although under pressure, a raft of substitutions throughout the match made it truly a team performance as players took to the pitch thinking why can't we give ourselves one more chance. The full time whistle soon echoed & our boys had just a perfect day, winning out 2-11 to 1-3.👏👏

Next stop – Kilmacud on Thursday. Take a bow(ie) boys & our thanks to St Anne’s for making the trip over.
