St Finians 2nd team Hurlers have been active in recent days with two championship matches with the first team also in championship action. On Thursday night, the second team travelled to Naomh Barrog with young players Jamie Shea, Cian Kavanagh, James Foley and Lucas Malone all in the starting 15 making their championships debut for the club. St Finians played very well in the 1st half and led 1-8 to 1-5 at half time . However, Naomg Barrog had the stronger panel on the night and were able to put in a strong 2nd half to win 3-19 to 1-10. The score of the match came St Finians Barry Kavanagh with an old style pick and hit strike for a point

The squad put this disappointment behind them and regrouped to face St Kevin's Killians in Rivervalley tonight. Gene Griffin and Vinny Foley curtailed Kerry all ireland celebrations to man the goalkeeper and centre back slots.

Lucas Malone was a live wire up front scoring 1-3 with goals from Lucas, Warren Hanley and Karl Martin putting St Finians in a commanding half time position. The St Finans defence had to be strong in the 2nd half with the opposition pushing strongly to get goals. Declan Murphy provided experience to steady the defence in the second half and Cillian Collier making his adult hurling debut for the club was in the thick of the action on his introduction in the second half. The outcome was a St Finians victory on a 3-20 to 2-9 scoreline

In between these second team encounters, the first team were in championship action against Eoghan Rua St Oliver Plunketts in Ridgewood on Sunday morning. The concession of two goals put St Finians on the back foot but the team did not panic, showing great spirit to recover. In the closing stages Domo Harris and Eoin O'Connor struck the match winning points to record a hard fought and narrow one point victory on a 0-16 to 2-9 scoreline 👏👏
