Under 13 Girls Update

It was decision day for the Football Championships and both Under 13 teams had key games.

First up, the Division 8 girls had a match last Thursday. It was the rescheduled final group game against Craobh Chiarains. With both teams locked on 4 points at the top of the group, it was a case of winner takes all (all being a home semi final!!). Craobh Chiarain hosted on their Astro, which is a pretty tight pitch.... They started strongly and built a commanding lead. Seemingly content to take their points, some goals from Finians kept the score close at half-time. The second half was played at a furious pace, with the large crowd in attendance entertained with the skill on show from both teams. However, Craobh Chiarain held on to win the game and group.

On the Friday morning, the county board were quick to schedule the semi-finals for Sunday. The division 8 girls had a trip across the M50 to Dalkey to take on Cuala. On a wet day on the Southside, both teams went into battle. An end to end, back and forth game ensued. Despite the conditions, there was a high level of skill on show. Unfortunately, the game ended in heartbreak for the girls as they lost by 2 scores.

Later in the afternoon, the Division 1 girls hosted Na Fianna in Ridgewood for their semi final. With the Juvenile pitch looking more like a swamp and the rain belting down, everything was set for a war of attrition. However, despite not playing a football match in almost a month, the girls showed no sign of rust to establish a nice lead. However, Na Fianna kept fighting and went into halftime only a few scores down. 💪💪

The second half saw the Finians girls push on though and a number of fine scores followed. The capacity crowd in Ridgewood were treated to a great team performance with scores shared around the team, including a few scores for some of the defence. The match ended in favour of Finians, and they now have a final to look forward to in two weeks against their great rivals, Clontarf. 👏👏👏

To end on a positive note, there were 40 girls togged out for the two matches today, which is an absolutely fantastic number! Well done to all the girls today
