It was a very productive Sunday for the U13 girls today as the division 1 and division 7 camogie squads faced off against Faughs and Erin’s Isle on home ground this afternoon.

The first match saw the division 1 girls welcome Faughs to Ridgewood in their Championship Semi Final which threw in at 1pm. Both teams, acutely aware of the importance of the outcome, launched themselves into the play with great gusto. The game was an absolute nail biter as the scores came thick and fast for the home side with some phenomenal displays of tactical passing and agility.

Going into the second half with a 5 point advantage, there was no room for resting on our laurels as the visitors were desperate to close the gap and put on a great challenge in order to try and claw back some much needed points. Despite some injuries, ferocious battles took place and spectators were treated to several displays of skilful free taking, speed and scoring. Determined to build upon the scores already achieved, the Finians girls worked incredibly hard in the second half to ensure a very comfortable and well deserved victory to guarantee them a space in the final against Clontarf. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Directly after the division 1 girls celebrated their fantastic win, their team mates took to the pitch hoping for a similar result. Following on from a challenging series of matches, the division 7 girls went into their Shield Semi Final with Erin’s Isle with great positivity and determination to triumph and get through to the next round. Some early scores gave us a boost and bolstered by the fantastic sideline support, the girls remained strong and consistently showcased their skill and ability on the field. During the first half the play was firmly concentrated in the oppositions half and the visitors battled our advancing mid and half forward lines well and played a good defensive game. By the time the whistle signalled the end of the first half, the Finians girls were comfortably ahead and eager to replicate their performance in the second half. As the weather began to close in, the anticipation of victory spurred on tired players to formulate a concerted and targeted effort on the oppositions defence line, a strategy which yielded dividends as the game drew to an end and the home team relished a well earned victory. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

As the championship nears a close, all the U13 girls coaches are very proud of the girls’ incredible accomplishments. There have been highs and lows in equal measure but to have 40 girls in a final is a truly remarkable achievement. Best of luck in the finals! πŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺπŸ’ͺ
