Adult Football Go Ahead Junior 1 Championship Final
Our adult mens football team travelled to the Naul for a 2nd successive Sunday morning to face fellow Fingal side Garristown in the Junior County championship final.
In front of an excellent crowd, the game started in a downpour which continued for most of the first half. This made for difficult underfoot conditions which the players adapted to quite quickly.
In a cagey and nervous first half both sides traded hard won scores with St Finians ahead by 6pts to 3pts on the 25th minute. An excellent point from Eoin OConnor being the pick of the 1st half scores for St Finians.
Two well kicked points in the final 5 mins by Garristown left a halftime score of 6pts to 5pts in favour of St Finians. The rain ceased for the 2nd half as both teams went into battle for the coveted Dublin Junior championship trophy.
Garristown took the lead for the 1st time in the game on the 38th minute with a well taken goal.
The St Finians defence were under serious pressure for the following 10 minutes which they responded to brilliantly.
An excellent point from Adam McGuirk and a brilliant goal from James Doyle in the 51st minute gave St Finians a 3 point lead with 6 minutes to go.
Again Garristown piled on the pressure and 2 points followed by an equalising point in the 62nd minute drew the game level.
All in all, it was a fair result.
